One of Alabama's Oldest Community Banks Becomes Dothan's Newest Friend
SLOCOMB, ALABAMA – Slocomb National Bank, a third generation family business, is one of Alabama’s oldest community banks. For more than 100 years, the traditions of Slocomb National Bank have been rooted in friendship and service. Today CEO Hope H. Johnson announced that the bank will continue its long-held traditions under a new name. Slocomb National Bank will be doing business as Friend Bank.
“Our deep friendships with our customers inspired the bank’s new name,” said Johnson. “As Slocomb National Bank has continued to grow we sought a new name that would support our growth while honoring our culture, our traditions, and our heritage. We believe we have found this name in Friend Bank,” Johnson added.
In keeping with community tradition, Friend Bank has expanded into the city of Dothan, where a permanent location will open in 2009. Friend Bank in Dothan will feature the work of friends in Dothan who have designed and will build the bank. Dothan-based architecture firm Waid, Parrish & Associates were contracted to design the new Dothan bank. The general contractor is Hollis and Spann.
“Being connected with our community has always been a cornerstone of how we do business,” said Friend Bank President, Joseph H. Johnson. “The Dothan office will be available for community groups and organizations to meet and hold events, and we are happy to provide a venue for such groups to develop and nurture their own friendships.”
Located at the intersection of Highway 84 and Ross Clark Circle, the Friend Bank in Dothan will provide community groups with one for the areas best locations to promote fund raising events. The bank itself will have a community boardroom for groups to use for Bible study, book clubs, board meetings, and other events. The site has long been the vending space for famed “peanut man” Mr. Trawick. He will continue to sell his famed boiled peanuts at the Friend Bank location.
Friend Bank contracted with Dothan native Terry Slaughter to create branding for the new bank. Slaughter and his team specialize in corporate and community brand identity work.
For more than 100 years Slocomb National Bank has focused on serving friends and neighbors in the Wiregrass. And for the next 100 years, as Friend Bank, bank employees will focus on serving their friends and neighbors even better. “We are excited by the opportunity to continue being part of your business and your family,” Johnson said. “And we are honored to continue providing banking that is true to you.”
