2013 Friend Bank Shred Day (Hear More)
On Friday, Oct 4th, Assured Data Destruction and Friend Bank will offer residents the opportunity to have their paper records and data storage materials shredded and recycled during the Community Shred Day. This free event aims to raise public awareness of the need to securely destroy confidential material in order to prevent identify theft and fraud, as well as to encourage people to recycle more.
“Identify theft crimes in the United States are at an all-time high,” said Director of Development Cynthia Green. Assured Data Destruction, a business division of Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center (WRC), Inc., specializes in plant-based document destruction. Assured Data Destruction provides a full range of secure, confidential services to private companies and government agencies. Assured has the highest security standards ensuring confidential information is protected while complying with federal and state regulations.
“When people securely dispose of their sensitive documentation, their risk of identity theft decreases dramatically,” said Green. Green added, “Holding a community shred day for residents gives everyone a chance to protect themselves from identity theft.”
Friend Bank is celebrating 108 years of serving the Wiregrass and invites the residents to celebrate with them at this community shred day event on Oct. 4th. Collection of materials will begin on Sept. 30 at the Dothan and Slocomb branches of Friend Bank. Secure bins will be placed at each location. Customers and the community are invited to the shred day event at both bank locations. Assured Data Destruction will be at the Slocomb branch of Friend Bank located at 220 East Lawrence Harris Hwy from 8am-11am and their Dothan location located at 3105 Ross Clark Circle from 1pm-4pm. Woof radio will be on hand under the Friend Pavilion at the Dothan location from 1pm-3pm with great music and cash card giveaways. Friend Bank, as one of Alabama’s oldest community banks, is proud to work with Assured Data Destruction to give Wiregrass residents a gift on their birthday that will help provide a measure of financial peace of mind. Accepted items to be properly disposed of include old bills, check stubs, health information, or any other confidential information that has accumulated over the years. Participants do not need to remove staples, paper clips, folders, or rubber bands from documents.
“For 108 years, our focus has been serving the banking needs of our friends and neighbors in the Wiregrass. And while some things have stayed the same years, some things have definitely changed. One of those changes is unfortunately the increase of Identity Theft.” Says Hope Johnson, CEO of Friend Bank. “And while we provide every checking account we offer here at Friend Bank, FREE Identity Theft protection with our Id ProtectAll plan, Community shred day helps us offer protection to our community as well.”
The drop-off event is free and open to the public. There is a maximum of 5 boxes limit per vehicle. Assured Data Destruction is AAA NAID (National Association for Information Destruction), the highest certification available for the secure document destruction business.
